THE NARADA RADIO COMPANY presents our third live performance of the great Lux Radio Theatre broadcast of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, performed on the stage of Port Aransas Community Theatre, Port Aransas Texas, between December 4th and 12th, 2021. Ten voice actors created the town of Bedford Falls, bringing to listeners all of the familiar characters from the film. Live music and a mix of live and pre-recorded sound effects completed the illusion. Audiences were mesmerized by the imagery, and laughed their heads off during the commercials (all mention of Lux was deleted and new spots for a fictitious product were substituted, to great comedic effect), AND they went home satisfied. We hope you enjoy this recording, and we wish you a very happy holiday season, plus a prosperous 2022! For the holidays, Project Audion, for its 25th production, turns to Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol." There were many adaptations of this tale during the Golden Age of Radio, but one of the cleverest and most charming was when it was transplanted to the Old West for a Christmas episode of the Jimmy Stewart western "The Six Shooter" which aired from 1953 to 1954. The story of Eben and Jake - and how and why Stewart's character Britt Ponsett tells it - makes for a delightful half hour. Originally broadcast on NBC, 12/20/1953. Our cast for this recreation is our most wide-ranging in both location and age: BRITT PONSETT: Ric Spiegel, TX JOHNNY CARVILLE: Austin Mosher, NY EBEN SCROOGE: Stanley Dyrector, CA BOB CRATCHITT: Chris Marcellus, UT BELLE / MRS CRATCHITT: Rachel Pulliam, MO AUNT MILLIE: Denise Cline, KY NEPHEW: Ken Raney, TX ANNOUNCER: Paul Arbisi, IL and JAKE MARLEY: Joe Mendell, UK GHOST: Richard Huitema, FL Sound is by Ken Raney, with direction, production, & music by Larry Groebe

Not too many stars from the OTR era have also hosted Saturday Night Live and a Broadway show, but comic geniuses Bob & Ray did it - and so Project Audion salutes them with a recreation of the offbeat, deadpan humor that aired on radio networks across the country for years starting in the early 1950s. John Bell in Alabama, and Pete Lutz in Texas take on the many characters created by Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding in an assemblage of sketches - both familiar and obscure - designed to replicate the kind of free flowing absurdity they did so well. Larry Groebe is there as well, handling the production aspects from Dallas.

Like the title says, this live show was performed and recorded in 1989, staged as a mock radio broadcast to entertain the ladies of "WAVES National", an organization whose members had served or were still serving in the U.S. Navy. They held their annual convention in Atlanta that year. All characters played by Pete Lutz and John Bayer, who were, respectively, serving on active duty and in the Naval Reserve at the time. WAVES, by the way, stands for Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service, which goes back to World War I. Nowadays all women serving in the Navy are full-fledged Sailors, serving on combat-ready ships and on submarines. The comedy sketches in this program were written by Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding, with filler written by Pete Lutz. |

THE EYES OF THAR (SCI-FI) For this episode from Pulp-Pourri Theatre's fourth season, we journey to the Red Planet for a weird sci-fi adventure that takes place both under the surface and in a completely different universe. It's called "The Eyes of Thar" and was penned by that prolific pulpster, Henry Kuttner. Kuttner lived a short life, dying in 1958 at the age of 42, but in that time he published dozens of short stories for the pulps, 18 or more novels, and just as many stories for the Golden-Age Green Lantern comic book series. If you haven't heard of Kuttner, perhaps you've read a story published under one of 17 different pseudonyms; his contemporaries felt he'd been cheated out of his well-deserved fame, because his fans didn't know he'd written so many stories under so many names. "The Eyes of Thar" was originally published under the Kuttner name in the Fall 1944 issue of Planet Stories. The adaptation was written by Pete Lutz in 2014 and recorded in 2016, with some pick-up lines recorded in 2017. Ms. Morizawa's introduction was recorded in 2017. Stay tuned after the episode to hear a very special announcement for a worthy organization.
