Who was it who made that phone call to the emergency room, the one that set off the horrible chain of events that took place in The Dark? Project Audion recreates the episode "The Dark" from LIGHTS OUT - one of classic radio's most imaginatively gruesome shows. It's an episode show that hasn't been heard in its complete form since January 1938! "Lights Out" was the work of master radio dramatist Arch Oboler, and he memorably redid "The Dark" 25 years later as a highly abridged adaptation for an LP called "Drop Dead" - the only recording you could hear until now. But Project Audion worked from the original half-hour 1938 script to deliver extra thrills and chills, and leading to a climax where -- well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? Who's afraid of The Dark? You will be!

The Cellar Miniseries continues with this thrilling retelling, by Kevin Kordis, of an old folktale. In order to save the people of his village from marauders, a blacksmith must enter into an agreement with the agent of a mysterious figure. Some years later, he feels that he should revisit this situation with the agent. The agent doesn't agree, but the smith is...quite persuasive. Mr. Kordis wrote this play for the 2019 Cellar Scriptwriting Competition, and received Honorable Mention. We're very proud to be finally presenting it.  This episode has the added thrill of having been edited and mixed in a single marathon production session lasting approximately 10 hours! Appropriate to the Halloween month - but good anytime - Project Audion's latest premiere is an episode of old time radio's long-running (1942-1955) mystery anthology series, "The Whistler". Over 700 episodes were originally broadcast, but we're recreating one that doesn't survive: "Man from the Morgue," which aired January 13, 1952 and was since lost. For our sixth, we are proud to present a remake of a radio play that was broadcast only once, in 1939: MIDWORLD, "Return of the Werewolf", from the Texas State Network.

Horror stories work so well as audio drama because all the awful deeds take place in your mind's eye. That's why radio spawned such classic shows as Lights Out, Quiet Please, Inner Sanctum, and...Midworld? Project Audion brings back to life a late-night radio horror show that has been dead for 83 years: a series which was only heard on the two dozen stations of the then-new Texas State Network. A single Midworld script is all that survives from it - a tale of werewolves and ghosts set in the Canadian wilderness. This is the first time the show has been performed since 1939. Watch our voice actors from across the US perform via Zoom, or close your eyes and just listen...if you dare!

This is a vivid variation on the eternal theme of the fight between Good and Evil. A thrilling, chilling, richly kaleidoscopic sound world ensues; a shimmering mirror maze that reflects your older or younger self, depending on your desires, and a magic carousel that plays Chopin's Funeral March forwards - with each rotation you gain a year, and rotating backwards - you get younger.

Tierney’s Tales of Terror Writing Competition

Deadline: May 19th 2022, 11pm CST.

Requirements: Theme: The Supernatural (This CAN take place in the future provided our current, modern day isn’t mentioned; i.e., the internet, politics, etc. A good example is to look at the original Twilight Zone and take inspiration from there.)

Rules:

1. Original audio plays only. (No audio plays including literary characters, i.e., Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.)
2. Your script must be free of visual cues.
3. Approximately 25-30 minutes (20-30 pages) in length (OR two 15 minute plays as 1 double-feature)
4. Horror genre
5. Family Friendly (no cursing, no sexually explicit themes, etc. This is because the original audio play, "A Tale of Tierney" didn't have any of that stuff and I'd like to keep it that way.

All winners will be notified one week after the contest is over.

Opportunity: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place scripts will be fully produced and distributed at several different sites, including two very prominent audio drama sites: Mutual Audio Network and Moonlight Audio Theatre.

Not only these, but you can expect an audio adaptation of a Eugene O'Neill play, AND Pete Lutz's own adaptation of a Lon Chaney-starred silent film. The possibilities are endless, the thrills are non-stop, and the stories are the best ones possible we could find. 

Our first one is an original tale by our director, inspired by an episode of Arch Oboler's "Lights Out" (but he can't remember which one). George McDingle is a guy who's been under the thumb of the world his entire life. But one morning he awakens with a massive headache...and a strange new power. Will he use it for good...or evil? Here's the Narada Radio Company in a show created for Mark Slade's "The Hangman's Dozen" anthology series. Written and directed by Pete Lutz, it's called "Four Minus One", and was originally released as a co-production of 63audio and 4077th/All Better Audio, on 2/26/16.

Set during the days when "Old Time Radio" was just "Radio", Four Minus One is about actress Marjorie Vining, longtime star of the hit radio series, "The Librarian of Coreyville". When she senses her co-star is scheming to steal her role, Marjorie seeks assistance from a local gypsy fortuneteller, who takes her down a long road of curses and revenge. (HORROR)
